I get what you're saying. There are four 'phases' to Atkins. In the first phase you virtually eliminate carbs altogether. You're allowed a total of 20grams per day in the form of nuts and veggies. In the later phases this increases. Eventually you are allowed to eat whole grain breads and fruit and there's less emphasis on fat. It's always a low carb diet but it becomes more balanced. The first phase is designed to get your body used to a new way of eating and kick start your metablolism. The second is the weight loss phase. The third and fourth are for maintenance and are far more balanced. Still low carb, but mostly avoiding stuff like white flour, refined sugars, stuff like that.
