So last night was a Dining Out for Life night in the Lehigh Valley. Doug and I went to the Allentown Brew Works. Check the website and see if there are events in your area. It's a great way to spend an evening.

Later that night we were hanging out at my house and Doug was complaining about how he had to get up early today. OMG! 10am. I told him I'd be thinking of him and the hardship he'd have to endure while I was getting ready for work at 5:45.

I entered a contest on the sirius/xm website for a trip to Las Vegas with Derek Hartley this weekend. I did not win, so instead I'm going with my father to a lecture on Gerardian philosophy, the resurrection, and movies. I'm not sure what it's all about, but I get to meet all my father's hippie college professor friends. I think he's actually a little nervous about introducing me to them. He keeps asking me what I'm going to wear and he moved Heaven and Earth to get me an appointment for a hair cut today. I'm fairly certain he talked to the barber about what he wanted done to my hair. The dude shaved my neck. He's never done that before (though I have to say, it was oddly relaxing).

I'm very happy to be off this weekend. I think I know why nurses snap and kill their patients. The noise really gets to you after a while.

So, a while back I started re-reading some of the Pern books in an attempt to formulate a panel topic for Eastern Media Con. Well, now EMC isn't happening and I'm not really sure if the panel idea would be appropriate for any of the other cons I attend. I still want to have the discussion though. I'm still reading the books, though I imagine my interest will peter out somewhere around 'Moreta' like it usually does, but I'm enjoying revisiting them despite the mysogyny and dubiously consensual sex. I'd really enjoy getting a bunch of people together to read the books in order and discuss as we go. I don't really have any idea how to do that though.

Playbill is reporting that Tyler Hanes will be in an upcoming production of 'The Drowsy Chaperone' in Maine this August. I imagine he'll be playing Robert since it's the only role he's appropriate for. I'm thinking I'll drive up to Boston and spend the night then up to Portland (which google maps tells me is about 30 minutes from Brunswick where the show is), spend two nights there, see the show and tour the city, then up to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park (which is so often overlooked). I was up there on vacation with my family when I was 18 and I really have been wanting to go back. And I figure if I work it into a week-long vacation then driving up to Maine to see Tyler in a play won't feel quite so stalkerish in my head. If anyone would like to get in on this trip with me, I would not be averse to having a traveling companion.

Finally figured out what to get mom for Mother's Day. I'm taking her to see South Pacific at Lincoln Center. I may also send her flowers since I have to work that day.

I bought season one of The Golden Girls the other day and have been enjoying it muchly.

If, for whatever reason you want to follow me on twitter my username is brak666. Not sure how much I'll be using it. I mostly just got it to follow David Shuster.
I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand it's convenient that I won't have to switch parties to vote for him in the primary. I was not looking forward to being a registered Republican however temporarily. On the other hand, I can no longer hold onto my tenuous claim of being an independent, since he's the only Republican I voted for anymore.

Man, I sure wish I had grocery delivery in my area. I really want some chocolate ice cream, but totally don't feel like going out and getting it.

I'm having a great time with [ profile] gblvr at Tribal Forces. [ profile] caorann was supposed to join us, but she didn't manage it. I did meet some cool people though, and there was much squee'ing about Merlin. There aren't really any panels I'm interested in today, so I'm kinda just hanging out.

Getting here was horrid. Instead of taking me to the turnpike entrance in Allentown, my GPS took me down Rte. 309 to Quakertown, which probably doesn't mean anything to any of you, so I'll just say 309 is one of those two-lane highways with traffic lights every ten miles or so. So yeah, that added about an hour to my trip. But once I got here, I had a wonderful time. A lot of late nights though. I'm pretty tired.

[ profile] gblvr and I decided that our door was boring, so we fancied it up:

I know some friends have got me on their waiting lists, but if anyone out there has one to spare, I am still in want of an invite code to Dreamwidth.
I go offline for one freaking day and pulls some major fucking shit with us. Well, I've already sent my letter to the customer service department, and the google bomb seems to have worked already, but I'll still add my voice in protest. Amazon Rank.

ETA: I also sent a letter to Tim Curran, the director of OutQ news at Sirius/XM radio asking him to look into it.

So someone on Facebook pointed me to a recipe for a fun little cocktail created by an enterprising Doctor Who fan.

The Sonic Screwdriver is:

One shot of vanilla vodka
One shot of blue curacao
6oz. of lemon/lime soda

It's delightful. And pretty.

I worked 11-7 last night because the night nurse is in the hospital. It wasn't bad really. The old people were pretty quiet. The only thing that sucked is that one of the doctors had been in late on the 3-11 shift and wrote orders on almost all of her patients. So I didn't really get to start my own work until around 1am. But really it wasn't that bad and I didn't have to work during the day today. So now I'm at my parents' house hanging out with my mom and sister, which is nice.

I'm a littl tired though. I only got about four hours of sleep, which really is why I don't work night shift all the time.
So when I picked up the bottle of certified organic 100% cranberry juice in the natural foods aisle at the grocery store, I failed to notice the word "unsweetened" at the bottom. That was a bit of a surprise. Though now that I've added a bit of sugar to it it's much better than any other cranberry juice I've ever bought from a store (which I've always felt was too sweet).

Aren't you all glad you know that?

Work really sucked today. My unit manager called out and the night nurse didn't call anyone to fill in for her, so it was just the two floor nurses (another nurse and myself). So we had a lot of extra work to do that we didn't really have time for and our director of nursing who is always up our asses bothering us about stupid shit was conveniently nowhere to be found when we actually needed help. They called someone in for a few hours, but mostly we were on our own.

The day actually started out bad even before I got to work. I'm not sure why, but even though the little light was blinking on my alarm clock the way it always does, the alarm itself was not sounding. I do occasionally hit the snooze button, but I would've had to have done it twice by the time I actually woke up and looked at the clock. That seems unlikely. Fortunately, it turns out that since I've begun feeding him every day around 6am, my cat now functions quite well as a back up to my alarm clock.

I'm so glad I don't have to work tomorrow. Though my mother wants to come over tomorrow and help me clean my house. I can't think of many things I want less. Really, only going to work comes immediately to mind.

Thing one:

Why have I not been able to find a Merlin/Doctor Who crossover? I can't be the only person who thinks that's an awesome idea.

Thing two:

Tyler Hanes and Leigh Ann Larkin at Joe's Pub performing a song that was cut from 'Ragtime'

Did you ever peruse a list of celebrity birthdays and come across someone you absolutely loved as a kid but haven't thought about in years and suddenly realize how old you're getting?

Irene Cara is 50 today.
