The Forgotten

So I watched The Forgotten. Then I watched it again with the alternate ending. I found the second ending to be more revealing yet oddly less satisfying than the first. I guess I just feel that the first ending revealed more about the character of the unseen aliens whereas the second ending, while it told you more about what was happening and why, didn't tell you anything about the thinking of the people (or is it beings?)behind it all.
