Hello from Alaska!

Hello everybody. Still in Alaska for a few more days but we're off the ship and onto the land portion of the tour and this hotel actually has reasonably priced internet.

Things have been going really well. I'm having a lot of fun. I've seen whales and bears, and eagles and all kinds of animals. It's beautiful up here. You see it in pictures, but it's so much better in person. The cruise part was great. I kicked ass at Broadway trivia. Also, the guys in Alaska are really hot! Who knew?

Anyway we're in Talkeetna today. The hotel we're at had a great view of Mt. McKinley. I say had, because the weather changed in a manner of minutes and with all the clouds and fog in the distance you wouldn't even know there were mountains. Fortunately before the weather changed we got to go on a plane ride around the mountain and land on a glacier. Tomorrow we go to Denali National Park. I'm also enjoying this whole 'sun not going down' thing way more than I thought I would. It's 9:30pm and it looks like 4. Apparently I don't actually get tired until the sun goes down, which tonight is around 11:15.

It's been a nice relaxing vacation. I've had lots of time to read, which I hardly ever get to do at home. In preparation for the Golden Compass movie I've been reading the His Dark Materials trilogy. And dude? Why the fuck didn't anyone tell me about the gay angels in book three? I would've read that years ago! That was freakin' awesome!

I love those books so much. I have them on cd too, to listen to when I fall asleep at night. Hope your tip continues to be good. It looks like I'll be going to Africa this August.

I loved them up until the end - I think he totally wimped out on the finale.

Once again I've been in limbo or something because I had NO idea you were in Alaska (maybe the hospital counts as an excuse?). I would have asked you to scoop me up a handful of soil for my garden and it is probably too late, darnit!

Sounds like you are having fun! And the hot guys? Tell me you are flirting, please. You are way cute and you need an adventure to bring even more smiles to your face when you think of your vacation.

How did this happen? Alaska? My Mom is going to go and I wish I could go with her but it is like two to three thousand dollars.

And YOU kicked ass at Broadway trivia? Who'd a thunk it?

Gay angels, huh? Maybe I will have to read some fantasy after all. You know SF and F are sorta kinda like cat people and dog people. I am a dog person. I like other peoples cats, but far far prefer a dog. I want an animal that cares if I exist when they aren't hungry. Raymond is a cat person. He likes their autonomy. I am a science fiction person. In years past when someone wrote an SF story and something impossible happened and you asked, they would say, "It's science fiction, ANYthing is possible." I think that is bullshit and I was happy that SF evolved. What I've seen in the last decade is that original problem with F. "It's fantasy, ANYthing is possible." You don't question it for goodness sakes! It's magick! I think Tolkien and Eddings would disagree. (I love their fantasy!) So this His Dark Materials is worth reading?

I'm flirting a little, but I'm not very good at it.
