My grandmother is in the hospital. We've never been close and her disdain for my father has clearly carried down the next generation to my sister and myself, but I'm driving two hours down and back to see her because my mother will be mad at me if I don't. I'm not sure how I'm going to get through this without the insulation that has typically been provided by the presence of my sister and consumption of moderate to large quantities of alcohol.
