Getting pharmacoligical

I've had my bouts with depression and anxiety before but never felt it was bad enough to take medication until about two years ago. I was feeling out of sorts and depressed. Before going to a psychiatrist I decided to try St. John's Wort. It worked pretty well. I've been off it for a while, but with everything that's been going on I decided to pick up a bottle. Every time I mention it to my father he tells me it's just a placebo. To which I reply: "Who cares as long as it works? Depression is all in your head anyway."

Hey, if it works for you and makes you feel better, you should use it. I hope things start looking better for you. My uncle was recently diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer and his wife has breast cancer, so I know how tough it is on a family.

placebo? Hah!

St. Johns Wort isn't a placebo. It really does work. I think, perhaps, your father just doesn't like the idea of you self medicating. But as with all herbal remedies, you can't take it for long periods of time without building up a tollerence. So, you take it for a week, then lay off for two or three days, then start taking it again.

Did you know that one of Paxils active ingredience is derived from St. Johns Wart?
