Lines

So, I'm reading through my flist about all the things people went through to get the book last night. Waiting in line, and going to the store hours early and getting color coded bracelets and all that sort of thing. And I suppose if you absolutely had to have the book at midnight and couldn't wait one second longer, then you had to do what you had to do. But all I can think of is how much nicer it was waking up at my leisure, eating my breakfast, drinking my coffee, playing some video games, then driving to Wal-Mart, walking right to the bookshelf, picking up the book, taking it to the checkout where I was behind one person, paying my $18, and going home with an absolute minimum of fuss.

I'm right there with you, buddy. I sauntered into Costco around 2:30, lovingly selected a copy from the bountiful display (price: $16.95, even less than Borders' advertised 40% off the cover price), and then had a leisurely shop around, stocking up on bulk snacks and sundries. I read Chapters 1 and 2 while I ate a late lunch ($1.50 hot dog and soda combo, whoo!), and I plan to savor the rest over the next few days.

Are you in on the TUT trip next weekend? I haven't heard anything from K about logistics--what time to meet, where, etc... I left her a comment in her LJ, but I know she doesn't check in that frequently. I should Email her, maybe??

Yeah, I'm in for Tut. Getting very excited. I just told Karen to get in touch with you and she claims to have responded to your comment.

Great, thanks! I don't get comments Emailed to me, and hadn't checked her LJ since sometime this AM. We're good now. See you soon!!

But the key was to treat it as a mini-fannish gathering, and not just go and stand by yourself. There was absolutely no point in going to stand by yourself, but if you went with friends, then you and your friends could stand there and have fun.
