I got my stimulus check today. And even though I think it's an absolutley ridiculous and ultimately destructive way to temporarily stimulate the economy, it's $600 I didn't have before, so I went out and spent some of it. I went to Suncoast and picked up Shelter and National Treasure 2, and I also picked up the two-disk special edition Hairspray soundtrack I've had my eye on forever. I've been telling myself the next time I had some extra money that I'd buy another season of DS9, so maybe I'll do that too. Most of it went to the bank though.

Shelter is really good. Not perfect by any means, but definitely a higher caliber of gay cinema.

ITA about the wrongheaded policy-making that went into thinking up those stimulus checks, but I am totally buying a Tilt with mine. That means the terrorists lose, right?

The review I read of Shelter went something like: "Nobody has AIDS, nobody gets bashed, and nobody dies." I said "that sounds like my kind of movie!" Then I read an interview with the writer who said he set out to make "the anti-brokeback" and I figured just for making the attempt he deserved my money.
