You mean you don't think people will stop hating us if we're really, really, really nice to them and don't annoy them by saying loudly that we want rights?

[identity profile] mofic.livejournal.com 2008-11-17 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
And you don't even think that rallying for our civil rights makes us just like the KKK?

Shocking, I know. But no, I don't.

That really irritated me, Play nice so the straight people like you, because that's worked out so well so far!

[identity profile] brak666.livejournal.com 2008-11-16 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Someone seems to have forgotten that the reason we have the limited rights we actually do have right now is because a bunch of queens got pissed off and decided they weren't going to take it anymore. If that means some straight people get freaked out that's just too damn bad. In the history of the world, no opressed minority has ever gotten their rights by asking for them nicely. They've gotten them by demanding them.

Yes, LGBT people need to act normal and not be ourselves and be quiet so that the straights will accept us and give us rights. *eyeroll*

Comparing gays to the KKK is just.... wow, I don't even have the words.

That famous quote from Edmund Burke comes to mind: all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. We ALL need to stand up to homophobia, because "playing nice" and ignoring it certainly won't accomplish anything.

Wow. That's just amazing. And apparently she's missed the history of every fight for rights ever in this country.

I can't read the comments over there because they're disabled right now, but I hope people are rebutting this ridiculous argument. Does she not recall the civil rights movement? The women's rights movement? The anti-Vietnam protests that did finally end the war?
