I can't believe I never noticed before.

So, I've been obsessively listening to my ill-gotten copy of The Little Mermaid cast recording. And I can't believe I've never noticed before. 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' has the same rhythmic pattern as a Limerick.

Try it. It works:

I admit that in the past I've been a nasty.
They weren't kidding when the called me, well, a witch.
But you'll find that nowadays
I've mended all my ways.
Repented, seen the light, and made a switch.

Unfortunately, no - a limerick's structure is extremely strict: two lines of three metrical feet (usually as anapest trimeter), two lines of two metrical feet (usually anapest dimeter), and a final line of three metrical feet.

The lyrics of this song physically resemble the limerick form in length comparison, but they are not at all a limerick.
