The local MCC was doing this gay wedding thing tonight. I went to check it out and it was pretty lame. What I did end up doing was going the Northampton County College to see the theater group perform The Laramie Project. It was...intense, I guess would be the best word for it.
It's strange how the death of one man who I never met and lived thousands of miles away from me has left a wound on my soul that has never quite healed. All these years later and I'm only just beginning to confront my feelings over that tragedy. When Matthew Shepard was killed I was stunned at first, then angry, and then something I've never quite been able to put into words, but it's a feeling that's stayed with me to this day. I watched only enough news to keep myself abreast of what was happening. I never watched any of the tv movies. I didn't watch The Laramie Project when it was on Sundance or when it was on HBO. I don't even quite know why I went tonight. But I'm glad I did.
