Just got back from a day in New York with [livejournal.com profile] starbuck3614. We went to see Wicked and Spamalot. Wicked was great. Sadly neither Rue McClanahan nor Ben Vereen were on today, but I was really going because I wanted to see Shoshana Bean as Elphaba and she did not disappoint. Spamalot was terriffic. Even funnier than I thought it would be. I already want to see it again. I sprung for the $300 front row ticket, so I got to see lots of Alan Tudyk dancing up close. He is so freaking gorgeous in person. He was very nice to everyone at the stage door, even though he was obviously exhausted. He led us all in singing Happy Birthday to Sara Ramirez (the Lady of the Lake) who was very likely going out somewhere after the show, as I doubt she wears her Tony dress home every night. She was awesome, both in the show and after. Someone close to me must have mentioned the dress to her because I heard her say "Well, it is my dress. I'm not gonna wear it just once." I got her autograph, which made me happy. Then Alan signed our Firefly DVDs and encouraged us to go see the movie. He also told us that Morena Baccarin had been there. But we didn't get to see her. All in all, quite a wonderful day.
I got up early in the morning, saw off [livejournal.com profile] starbuck3614 then went for a hair cut. After that I went to Dad's and we went up to Sussex County to see how the reapairs had gone to the summer house. It's wonderful. New floors, new ceiling, totally new bathroom fixtures and the walls are tiled now so you can actually use the shower. We brought some of the furniture back in and packed up some stuff for trash. Then we headed home with a quick stop off to my cousin's to drop off something my mother had bought for the baby. We were about five minutes from home when this giant pick-up truck comes flying out of a gas station at a high rate of speed. So fast that we didn't even really see it before it hit us. It hit the front of the car and somehow managed to get on top of it. If we'd been even a foot farther up the road it would've T-boned us and my father and I would likely both be dead right now. As it is, I can't believe we made it. My father had some back and neck pain and went to the ER. Nothing is broke so it's probably just some mild whiplash. I've got a brush burn from the seatbelt and my leg hurts where it hit the dash, but otherwise I'm ok. So, I ended up spending the evening in the ER rather than going home and making dinner. I'm now very hungry, but don't really feel up to making anything.

Also, while I was at the ER one of the dietary aides from work was wheeled in. Apparently he'd been jumped in the parking lot on his way home from work. Poor guy. Apparently he'd gotten someone else in the kitchen in trouble for, you know, not doing her job, so she had a friend of his attack him. Very nice world we're living in. What the fuck is wrong with people, you know? I just don't get it.
