I went to Philadelphia with my mother for the weekend. A while back I'd seen that the touring company of Les Miserables was coming to Philly this month. It's the last year of the tour and I know it's one of my mother's favorite shows, so I got tickets. She was, of course, excited and suggested that since the show wasn't until 8 that we get a hotel for the night. Once we had the hotel room reserved she figured why not spend the whole weekend there? So, Saturday morning we went down to the Franklin Institute to attend the Body Worlds exhibit. And let me tell you, it was amazing. Simply fascinating. There was also an interesting imax movie about ancient Greece. Most of it focused on archaeological discoveries on Santorini. I so have to go there some day. Such interesting and beautiful architecture.See? )

The Institute was also playing host to several minor league baseball mascots that day including Boomer of the Trenton Thunder. It just so happened that on that day, Boomer was being portrayed by none other than my sister. So that was fun.

After checking in to our hotel (we stayed at a Double Tree with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life) we had a fabulous dinner at a Greek restaurant called Estia where we had lamb chops to die for and lots of cute Greek waiters. Then it was off to the show which was A-mahzing. Their Valjean was the best I've ever seen or heard. Their Javert (who was actually the understudy) was also fab. Really the only weak point was Marius who wasn't so much bad as he was not as good as everyone else. Though I was worried about Eponine for a while. She started off a little weak, but managed to pull off 'On My Own' wonderfully. I was relieved. A bad Eponine can seriously ruin that show.

Today we went to the Camden Aquarium. It's a lot less lame than the last time I was there. They've got this African River exhibit now with hippos. They're celbrating one of the hippos' birthday this month so we got to watch the hippo eat cake (specially made healthy hippo cake covered with berries and served on banana leaves). I also got to watch them feed the Penguins. Penguins, it would seem, are very good at telling time. About five minutes before the scheduled feeding time they all stopped what they were doing and congregated at the door the workers would be coming out of. It was cute. But not as cute as the two seals that jumped out of the water and tried to follow the workers out of the exhibit after their feeding was over. I also got to mock some kids on leashes which is always fun. So all in all, a great weekend. It's nice to be home though. Even if I do have to work tomorrow :(
