Transformers was awesome! I have to say, that as a life-long fan of the Transfomers, it really was everything I hoped it would be. Optimus Prime looked awesome. And kudos to the people who made the film for realizing that there is only one person who could ever perform the voice of Optimus Prime. That said, it's never going to make the AFI top 100, but that's not the kind of movie this is. It's a summer action movie, and as a summer action movie it delivers everything it needs to to be one of the best. The car chases were cool, the robots were cool, the explosions were cool. My only problem was that some of the action scenes, especially the ones with the robots fighting each other were a little too frenetic to really tell what was happening. Also, I'm not sure if it was because we were late and had to sit too close to the screen, but it seemed like there were a lot of extreme close-ups that really should've been farther out. I would've liked a bit more development of Megatron as a character. As a fan, I know what sort of character Megatron is, but I would've liked to have seen it illustrated a little more in the text. It really felt like they were counting on me to fill in the gaps for myself because of my previous awareness of the product.
I think I'm gonna need to see this again, but from farther away this time. It's my own fault really. I figured if we got there by 9:45 we'd be good for the 10:10 show. So I told Doug 9:45. I should've realized that if I wanted him there at 9:45, I should've told him 9:30. I always forget he's on gay time.
