So I was watching Morning Joe today and something somebody said really pissed me off. Surprisingly it wasn't Tucker Carlson (in fact I'd have a Tucker Carlson icon if I could figure out how to to fit 'I <3 my short, funny-looking, badly dancing, strangely attractive, gay marriage supporting, right wing lunatic' onto it). Neither was it Col. Jack Jacobs saying that he thinks Don't Ask, Don't Tell is working just fine. I imagine it works just fine for him especially considering that he's retired.

No, it was Chuck Nice. In discussing the notion that the civil rights movement and the gay rights movement are not on par with one another, a notion I happen to agree with (none of my ancestors were abducted from gayland and carried off into slavery), his main contention for the difference is that it's not the same because gay people can pass for straight if they want to.

Can I tell you how sick I am of people, and especially people of color, telling me that the discrimination I face as a gay man is somehow mitigated by the fact that I could pass for straight? As if passing is something people should aspire to. As if passing were a good thing. As though the entire point of the gay rights movement isn't predicated on the notion that maybe most of us can pass for straight but WE SHOULDN'T FUCKING HAVE TO!

Just got back from seeing Stardust. Everyone in the world needs to see this movie! It's the most beautiful, romantic, magical movie I have seen since Beauty and the Beast.
