So a lot has been made lately about Sarah Palin and her family and what level of attention is appropriate and whether or not her family is any of our business. And usually I would be very firmly against paying any undue attention to the family of a political candidate. But I've been thinking about this a lot and I've come to the conclusion that Sarah Palin isn't paying us the same courtesy.
When she's trying to tell gay people who they can and cannot marry, she's making a judgement about my family. She's making my family and the families of every other gay person in America her business. When she's trying to deny women access not just to abortions, but to any kind of birth control, she's making the families of millions of Americans (men and women) her business.
So until she stops making our families her business, I say her family is fair game. I reserve the right to question her judgement, her capabilities as a parent, her daughter's virtue. It's all out there because she put it out there and if she wants her privacy back, I'll be happy to give it to her just as soon as she gives me mine.
