I'm already bored with L&O:SVU's blatant Emmy whoring. So I figure if I try to do a con report right now, it won't be so painful. Oh, and everything Matthew Modine said about Stabler in the teaser was 100% true.

Escapade '05

So, I arrived on Thursday. One of the things I like about Escapade is that its distance from my home requires that I get there the day before. So many other people do the same thing that it's like getting a whole extra day of con. I got there around 4:30 local time, checked in and looked around the hotel. I quickly found [livejournal.com profile] arallara and some others. Hung out with a lot of cool people and had some fun at the pool before going to bed. Friday morning I went to the con suite and was delighted to find that someone there knew how to make a decent cup of coffee. The first panel was about how to generate good conversation for future panels. We brainstormed some good ideas about how to keep the panel topics more current. The LJ etiquette panel was good, but it was nothing I hadn't heard before. [livejournal.com profile] smaragdgrun's Slash and Fandom panel was good, but it didn't quite go in the direction I thought it would. At some point during the day I had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] latxcvi and several others. The con party was that night. They had free margaritas in the con suite. I met a fan who plays FFXI, sadly not on my server. Later in the evening [livejournal.com profile] ladyjax showed Wonderfalls which is just as cool as I remember it. There was much squeeing over the show and the fact that Tracie Thoms is going to be in RENT. I also enjoyed the pimping room. While there I picked up a CD wtih AVI's of House.

Went to a few panels on Saturday, but none of them really grabbed me. Though I did enjoy the X-Men panel. The RPS panel was decidedly uncontroversial. They were more fun when the anti-RPS people went to them. I enjoyed the vid show. Then I chatted with people for a while. I looked in on the game of He/He going on, but I wasn't feeling it, so I headed down to the bar where Keith the bartender made me some damn good Cosmopolitans. I got lit and wandered around for a while then went to bed.

Sunday. Con Sundays are so sad. Breakfast was good. The free DVD of the vid show you got when you went to breakfast was better. The Jay and Silent Bob panel was all right, but the hightlight of the day was [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh's Tipping Point panel. It sparked a lot of good discussion about how and why things in fandom take off and the roles we play. The wrap up panel also sparked some good ideas about improving the con for next year. I spent the rest of the day in the con suite waiting for my ride to the airport. While there [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh introduced me to the joys of House. The trip home pretty much sucked. I should've realized it would suck when I saw the layover in Philadlphia. But I won't bore you with the details of my very long trip home.

I had a wonderful time. I'm really looking forward to ConneXions. And next year's Escapade. and wow, did SVU suck today!
