Billy and Teddy aka Wiccan and Hulkling from Young Avengers. I've been reading comics off and on for a long time and to finally get a canon gay couple in a mainstream teen superteam comic is just amazing. Plus they're cute and totally in love which I dig. I don't use it much unless I'm actually talking about Young Avengers.

Hex! For those who don't know, Hex is a character from the Big Finish Doctor Who audio dramas. He travels with the Seventh Doctor and Ace. He's an ER nurse (though I guess in the UK they call it A&E) from the early 21st century. I really like the character for a lot of reasons. For one thing it's kind of hard to find male nurses in the media who aren't portrayed as the butt of jokes, which gets kind of annoying. So just from a personal perspective I find that cool. Also, he's portrayed by the absolutley gorgeous Philip Olivier. I made the icon from a piece of official art portraying Olivier as the character. The microtext along the top there is his full name and title. Thomas Hector Schofield, RN. I use it mostly when I'm talking about work what with Hex being a nurse and all. I also use it when talking about the Seventh Doctor audios and Philip Olivier.

My default. My first LJ icon. Made for me by my friend [livejournal.com profile] gblvr when I first got my LJ. Way back in the day when I was just a little baby fan I was also watching a lot of Cartoon Planet. So when it came time to choose a pseud I went with Brak because he made me laugh.

Captain Jack in the TARDIS. I think the caption speaks for itself. I may be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain Captain Jack is the first canonically queer character in mainstream sci-fi. That's freakin' awesome and well past due. The fact that his portrayer John Barrowman is also out and proud is doubly awesome. (yes, I know about Ivanova in B5, but that's so far under the radar that people miss it all the time) It's sort of my gay and in your face icon. I also use it a lot when talking about boys.

Jamie Madrox aka The Multiple Man from Marvel comics. A relatively minor character even at his most prominent. Currently the star of X-Factor. The name of the artist currently escapes me and I'm not at home to check the book. I've always enjoyed the character. He's got a really interesting superpower (he makes copies of himself hence the M^2). The series current writer, the fabulous Peter David, has been doing a lot of interesting things with the ability. Having his duplicates manifest various facets of his personality, having duplicates who've been on their own for a long time not want to reintegrate, and how the ability to go in every direction at once can actually result in a pretty directionless existence. Plus I think he's really hot the way they drew him in the limited series this scan was taken from.
