It doesn't really have a title. I'm calling it the JoeyinRENTverse. It'll take a while, but it will eventually end up JC Chasez/Manley Pope Just so everyone knows. Written because Bryan inspired me.
Tuesday August 6th 1:00am
Joey was still wired. After the show he’d gone back to his parents’ hotel and they’d stayed up a bit talking, but they’d just flown in that day and were pretty tired. He’d known that Kelly had planned on being there, but when he’d seen his parents in the audience he’d almost forgotten his lines.
After late night drinks with his parents he’d headed uptown and hit a bar with Manley and Karmine, but now he was at his hotel alone and still way too wired to sleep. His cell phone rang and he checked the caller ID before picking up.
"JC! You’re up late."
"It’s only 10 out here, Joe," JC said.
"Like I said, you’re up late."
"Shut up," JC said, but Joey could hear the smile in his voice. "How was your show?"
"Great! I screwed up once, but it’s not a show if Joey doesn’t screw up, so…"
"Stop it, Joe. It was your first night. God, you must have been so nervous. It’ll get better once you settle into the routine."
"Yeah, you’re right. My parents came tonight. Kind of a surprise."
"That’s so cool!"
"Yeah, I thought they were coming with Steve and Janine next week, but there they were."
"Great. We’re all so proud of you, Joey."
"Thanks. Mom cried."
JC chuckled.
"Dad too."
"Did you guys go out after the show?"
"They just flew up today so they were kinda tired. We just had drinks back at their hotel then I hit a bar with Karmine and Manley. I wanted to get some sleep, y’know, but I’m all keyed up."
"Yeah, I hear ya."
"So, I saw the pictures from the TCA’s. ‘Go us’ by the way."
"Yeah, we rule. How’d you see the pictures so fast?"
"Miiya’s a total techno geek. She showed me on the internet. Love the hat."
"Thanks!" JC said brightly completely missing the sarcasm. "Chris said it looked stupid."
Joey didn’t have the heart to tell him he agreed with Chris so he said "I don’t think we can really trust Chris’ judgment on what does and doesn’t look stupid on peoples’ heads."
JC giggled for two straight minutes.
Joey knew because he timed it.
"Thanks, man." JC said when he regained his composure.
"No problem. So, you still single?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Just checking. I know you and Tony have been pretty chummy lately."
"How many times do I have to tell you people I’m not in love with Tony? He’s my best friend. I’ve known him since I was 14. That would be like sleeping with Justin."
"Oh, gross, C! Don’t say shit like that!"
"My point exactly. Anyway, why the sudden interest in my relationship status?"
"I think one of my co-stars plays for your team."
"Really?" JC said, intrigued.
"Just a vibe."
"You playing Yenta again?"
"Maybe. I’ll introduce you when you come. You’re still coming after the VMA’s right?"
"Yeah, me and Justin. Chris has that thing with Willa, he’s not sure if he’ll be able to make it for the 29th. He knows he’s definitely missing the VMA’s though."
"That beauty pageant thing?"
"Yeah."
"I’ve got someone I want to hook Justin up with too, if he’s not still stuck on Nelly."
"They’re not dating or anything. They just have marathon sex sessions whenever they’re in the same city."
"He’ll be in town for the VMA’s won’t he?"
"One would assume."
"Too bad."
"There will be other opportunities, I’m sure."
"Yeah."
"Chris’ll probably be calling later tonight."
"Justin?"
"He usually comes up for air after a day or two. Sometime tomorrow, I’ll bet."
Joey laughed. "You got plans for tonight?"
"Marc’s in town doing some voice-over stuff. We’re gonna hit a club."
"Cool. Have fun."
"Yeah. See ya soon, Joe."
"Later, man. Remember: Stay single."
"I’m pretty sure, I can manage." JC said laughingly and hung up.
Joey hung up the phone with a smile. He’d been talking up JC to Manley for two weeks now. He was pretty sure he was interested. Now all he needed was JC to actually come to the show and he’d work that Fatone match-making magic.
