So, just like last time I watched a total of one episode of American Idol. Of course, I'm talking about the last one, because really for me, it's just like Hockey. I don't care about the game I just want to know if the Devils won.
Anyway, the finalists this time around were infinitely more talented than Justin and Kelly were. In fact, last go 'round my thoughts were something along the lines of "These are the best out of all those people? Can't they both lose because I don't want to hear either of them sing ever again."
That said, Clay and Rueben were both incredible. I find it suprising and just a little refreshing that in our beauty obsessed culture two very non-traditional looking people got to the end of the contest. It may actually be a talent competition after all.
Though having only seen them the one time I never developled a personal attachment to either one of them. I found them to be of comparable talent, but still felt the need to "root" for one of them. So being perfunctory about it, I went on asthetics. Clay creeped me out. Every time I looked at him, I either thought of Crispin Glover in Willard, or had the urge to stuff him into a locker.
So I rooted for Rueben, but it was totally arbitrary and based on an asthetic reaction that I probably could've gotten over if I ever bothered to watch the show before last night. If I were home at night I would probably watch it live, but AI is not the kind of thing you tape. At least not to my way of thinking. But then, it was on opposite Buffy wasn't it? So if I were home I probably wouldn't have watched anyway.

I can't really explain it, but with stuff like AI and televised sporting events I get into this Heisenburg-ian mindset that by watching it live, even though I'm thousands of miles away and watching it on TV, that I'm somehow affecting the outcome. Once it's taped, it becomes static. The outcome is assured and it doesn't matter if I watch or not(not that it ever did, but it feels like it did.)
It's the same reason I stopped watching 24. It just wasn't as suspenseful without the commercials. Though I find that watching anything on tape is like microwaving steak. It's hot and it tastes the same as it did yesterday, but somehow it's just not as good. With most dramas I can deal with it, but with stuff like AI, it just seems pointless.

But with tv shows and something like AI? I'm so damn impatient!
