1. What type of fannish interaction do you prefer: conventions, smaller in-person gatherings, mailing lists, newsgroups, blogs/journals, IRC?
That's tough to say. I never really liked mailing lists, and never really participated in newsgroups. But as to the others, I can't really say which I prefer. I love cons and smaller gatherings but don't get to go to them very often. And that makes blogs/journals nice to have around so I can keep up with the people I'd only see a few times a year otherwise. I used to be heavy into IRC but I've kind of got away from it lately.
2. Are you always upset when your show gets canceled or have you ever been (not so) secretly relieved?
The most recent show to make it to its end with me still watching it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I have to say I was relieved. It felt like it was time to end it. Yes, I was a little sad, but the quality, while still good was definitely going down hill. So while I was sad to see it end, I was also happy it didn't get dragged on and on forever(*cough x-files cough*). Generally it upsets me when shows are cancelled abruptly or before their time. The Pretender still stings. As does VR.5.
3. Do you find icons an integral part of lj'ing or would you be just as happy with one icon as with fifty?
I like icons. I think they're fun and a nice way to be expressive for those of us with very little artistic talent. And for those of us who are talented they can be downright beautiful. I used to think I'd never need more than one, but I got really into them. 15 wasn't enough, but I don't know that I'll ever have 50. I don't think I would call them integral though. I think they're more for fun than anything else.
4. Do you prefer to read fanfic in zines or online?
Online. Zines are expensive and take up space. Also there's no guarantee of quality. Granted there's no guarantee of quality on net fic, but when I close a window on a bad story I'm not throwing $25 away like I am when I toss a bad zine in the trash can.
5. Do you consider yourself FIAWOL* (fandom is a way of life) or FIJAGDH* (fandom is just a goddamn hobby)?
FIAWOL all the way. I'm not so into fandom that I can't function in RL. I'm not the type to wear a Star Trek uniform to jury duty or anything. But it's definitely something I wouldn't do without.
