Can anyone out there with a laptop reccomend to me a safe cleaning agent for the screen?

Straight up alcohol and a lint free cloth, like you would use for eyeglasses. If you wouldn't want to clean your (sun)glasses with it, then it's probably too abrasive for your laptop.
