You know what annoys me?

I'll tell you what annoys me. It annoys me when people on mailing lists who have clearly finished writing a story, who have in fact, stated that the story is finished in the first post, post the story in parts every few days. That's what annoys me. It's just a cheap ploy to get more LOCs.

The first fandom I really got into was The Sentinel back before Yahoo!groups when there was only one discussion list and a separate list for fic. I must say that it spoiled me, because on both those lists there was a very clear standard of behavior and the rules were enforced with an iron fist. If you were posting a WiP you had damn well better label it as such and if you were posting a story in multiple parts you posted the whole thing. If anyone tried to pull this crap on SXF the flames they would've received from the list members would've been hot enough to melt their computer.

As a corrollary to that, I again renew my objection to public feedback. I honestly don't give a crap what every frelling member of the list thought of the latest story that was posted. You know who cares? The author of the story, who has an e-mail of address of her very own. Send it to her, not the list. I know hitting the reply button is easier, but C&P the address into your e-mail program you god damned lazy morons!!!

I've never been on a mailing list where a good standard of behavior was enforced, and I'm still incensed by the laziness of just hitting "reply" when providing feedback. I will say that multiple part works just seem to be irritating in general when sent over listserve. My ideal would be a set of links to the various parts, sent in one email. The bomb-style dropping of seven parts of one fic into my email inbox drives me a little batty.

God yes. Or the people who post parts *weeks* apart. So. fucking. annoying. Can't you just post the whole freaking thing for those of us who don't want to wait? I swear - we'll send an LOC, but not for every freaking part. I never send them on each section, only on the fic as a whole....
