First I went on Friday. I went today to discuss my lab results. My cholesterol is up. Not horribly surprising. I'm overweight and have high blood pressure. I didn't need a lab to tell me my cholesterol was high. My HDL ("good cholesterol") is unusually high, which my doctor says is probably genetic (it is, my dad's is the same) and helps offset some of the risk. But I need to drop my LDL by about 50 points.
Of course, the best way to do that is to change my diet and exercise more. To that end I got some cheerios to replace my usual nothing for breakfast and some granola bars to replace my usual Drake's cherry pie as far as snack food goes. Also some garlic tabs and fiber supplements. I am to make an appointment with a nutritionist, but in the meantime I'll be adding more chicken and fish to the diet, and I did twenty minutes on The Bike of DOOM (it's a start) today.
Exercise is going to be the hardest part. I really wish I was one of those people who liked to exercise. Or who just enjoyed walking around outside. Or really just moving at all. But I'm not. It just does nothing for me. The closest I ever came was that I sort of didn't hate the weight lifting. But between my trip to Bermuda and subsequent job change my schedule got all out of whack and I let myself go. As always my biggest problem is motivating myself to do something I really hate doing.
