I don't think men would rather be lost, I just think they would rather understand how to get where they're going, and figure it out themselves, than to have someone direct them.
You don't think that it's an ego trip, deep down inside? That they don't want to show weakness by asking for help? I don't think it's necessarily conscious, but I think it's a factor.
Speaking as someone who once circumnavigated the state of New Jersey in an attempt to find his way home after taking one wrong turn on the way back from Philadelphia that it's all about not showing weakness by asking for help.
