Chris Columbus is directing the movie version of RENT, and Justin Timberlake wants to be in it. I'm frightened.

I heard that a few weeks ago, and my first thought was that it was just a carryover from that never-die rumor that Justin was going to be in RENT on Broadway. my second was that they're just throwing his name around to get a little bit of extra press--like they did when they claimed Justin was interested in being in the next Superman movie (which I don't believe, either.)

Regardless that I'm a big Justin fan, and being pretty sure that he'd do a good job in any project he gets involved in, I really, really don't want a movie made out of RENT, whether Justin's in it or not.

I don't think a movie can capture the sort of... bare bones realism that the show uses; and I don't think the normal movie-viewing audience would be able to bring enough of themselves to appreciate it.

I'd really rather they didn't make a movie either. Though if they do make one, I'll probably go see it. I am not, as you know, a huge Justin Timberlake fan. I just don't think he's a strong enough vocalist to be Mark or Roger. I actually think he'd make a pretty decent Angel, but I don't think that'll ever happen.
